Diesel Engine Assembly Line

Siemens S7 software design and commissioning for a number of fully automatic block assembly machines, e.g. Bearing Cap Rundown, Oilpan Rundown, TDC Machine, Head Rundown and Short Block to Long Block Transfer.

Machine control systems were based on a Siemens C7-626 HMI/PLC which utilised a Profibus DP network for all I/O devices.

The assembly line catered for the build of over one hundred engine type variants. Engine build data for each product was received by the S7 PLC from the plant host computer system and then stored within a Siemens MOBY-I data tag located on each platen. The MOBY tag data was then updated at each operation to reflect pass/fail status and to provide repair information. The S7 would also send the operational results information to the host computer.

The main machine sequences were written using Siemens S7 Graph, and real time diagnostics displayed on the HMI screen with PDIAG and ProTool software.

All servo drive applications (i.e. automatic bolt rundown operations) made use of Indramat ECO drives linked to the Profibus network. The Indramat drivetop software was used for drive and positioning setup.
